FUNDRAISING | 50 for 50: Raising funds for dementia research

We’re running a grassroots fund raising initiative to support dementia research. Linda set herself the goal of riding 50km for her 50th birthday, having started cycling only a couple of years ago. At the time this goal was set, 50km seemed like a significant target. However, she’s already managed to ride that distance, so will be completing the ride to support the community. She is asking people to sponsor her 50km ride with a $5 donation (or whatever is affordable) with all funds raised going to dementia research.

We are hoping to raise awareness of brain health as well as raise funds for dementia research through this activity because:

  • as social and urban planners and researchers, we can appreciate the impacts and implications of the rising incidence of dementia, and
  • an elderly relative was recently diagnosed with dementia.

Linda will be riding from home at Aspley to Chermside, following the Downfall Creek Cycleway to Nudgee, through the Boondall Wetlands on the Moreton Bay Cycleway, via Shorncliffe to the Sandgate Foreshore, then across the Ted Smout Bridge to Woody Point and then return via Sandgate Foreshore, on to the Cabbage Tree Creek cycleway to Albany Creek Road, Aspley, then home.

Harbinger is inviting you to support this fundraising effort by sponsoring Linda’s ride with a $5 pledge (or whatever is affordable). A facebook page has been set up and you are invited to join the event. We’re asking sponsors to please use the comments to make a pledge. Donations can be made directly to Fight Dementia via their website.
