SUPPORT | Investigating Community Projects

Harbinger Consultants is sometimes able to use our capabilities to support the community. Locally, this has included Linda’s participation in Brisbane City Council’s Active Aspley initiative as a member of a community planning team and John’s board membership of Kurbingui Sporting Association Inc.

We’re also working as part of Enabling Suburbs to develop projects and opportunities for our locality. We recently provided assistance to Mandy Ridley as part of her research process for a public art project she is developing for the cycleway. Three projects on our radar are a public artwork proposal for Carseldine, an open studio tour (or day) connecting local makers in Brisbane’s northern suburbs and interested members of the community (a bit like open gardens except focused on maker studios), and scoping of a market for the carpark of an Aspley business. These projects will see us working collaboratively with project partners to develop scope, ascertain feasibility and, if required, raise funds.

Working in this way means we are able to develop creative approaches and engagements with and in our community. It grounds us in our locality through a tangible commitment to community engagement and place making. While we don’t know if these two ventures will eventually manifest, we’re always pleased to be part of a conversation that is generating ideas and possibilities for enhancing the public realm as well as social and cultural life of the community.
