Culture + Complexity + Change

WRITING | New writing

New Year greetings to one and all from John and Linda at Harbinger. We begin the year with our plates full.

We begin the year with two new texts by Linda Carroli, which demonstrate Linda’s involvement and engagement with creative and urban applications of technology. Both texts are available on her flytrap site:

  • Sensing and Searching the City reports on the Melbourne conference Urban Screens and a new book edited by Marcus Foth, Urban Informatics: The practice and promise of the real time city. Given the breadth of the two projects, she focuses on papers and discussions that focus on participatory, social and cultural practices of space.
  • In her report about the Premier of Queensland’s New Media Art Awards, she presents some considerations about the shortlisted works as innovative investigations of new technologies, science and artistic process.

Linda will soon be presenting some work in progress for the Placing Project, which she says has shifted from being a critical writing project to more of a “collaborative authoring, mapping and planning experiment”.
