PROJECT | Great Wall Project

Work will soon resume on the Great Wall of Nambour public art project. Project Manager, John Armstrong of Harbinger Consulting, has been appointed to reignite the creative development for the Great Wall, located on the Howard Street section of Nambour Plaza.

Armstrong was involved in the original concept development, approved by Council in early 2005, in his former role as Director of artSynC. He will be working in an independent consulting capacity on this project with Linda Carroli.

Armstrong said he was aware that there had been stops and starts with the project since his departure from artSynC to take up employment in Brisbane. His priority is to refine the project’s artistic goals in keeping with community expectations.

“The original proposal was focused on community consultation and involvement as well as artistic collaboration,” Armstrong said.

“I would like to reinvigorate those inclusive approaches and introduce a public artwork that positively reflects the community spirit of Nambour, enlivens the streetscape and enhances the urban environment.”

Armstrong is currently working in a management role in Brisbane. His former roles include Gallery Manager of Fire-Works Gallery, Project Manager of Campfire Group Projects and Head of Visual Arts at Queensland University of Technology followed by secondment to QUT Carseldine Campus as Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Arts. He is a member of the Queensland Indigenous Arts Marketing and Export Agency (QIAMEA), serving his second term, and Chair of Access Arts. He has completed a variety of consultancies, facilitations and projects including project management.
